HABRONEMA CREAM DIRECTIONS

EFFECTIVE TREATMENT AND CARE FOR HABRONEMIASIS IN HORSES

Habronema is caused by a parasite carried by flies that affect the horse’s stomach and by similar transmission can also affect their skin. Habronema has the potential to cause ulcerative sores on the horse’s body. Without intervention, the wounds will persist, worsen and spread, causing inflammation, pain and itching at the site. The horse will bite and gnaw at the lesion, subsequently causing it to enlarge and ooze, drawing flies to the site and greater parasitic growth occurs. A devastating proliferative cycle evolves and will continue until resolved.

Lasskin Equine’s Habronema Cream, combined with an individualized, case by case approach, has a proven track record for clearing ulcerative skin lesions caused by the Habronema parasite. Habronema Cream was formulated by Janet Kendall, founder and owner of Lasskin Equine. Janet’s extensive background in the skin care industry and expertise in equine health and wellness, culminated in the development of Habronema Cream.

Lasskin Equine’s team of professionals will work with you to develop an individualized approach for clearing Habronema. After purchasing Lasskin Equine Habronema Cream, two treatment options are available to facilitate your horse’s care.

  1. Your horse’s caregiver will manage the treatment of external wounds at your location. We will provide phone, video call and email support to help you develop and facilitate your horse’s treatment plan.
  2. Lasskin Equine’s professional services, to include, transportation to our facility, boarding and trained caregivers are available to facilitate your horse’s recovery.

NOTE:

Aside from medication, other steps can be taken to manage Habronemiasis. Keeping the affected area clean and dry, using topical treatments to soothe and heal the skin, and providing supportive care can help your horse stay comfortable and healthy.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, use our contact form or call us. We look forward to working with you to give your horse the excellent care they deserve.

MANE & TAIL DIRECTIONS

Important: Do not brush or comb mane or tail prior to using shampoo and conditioner. Apply Lasskin Equine Mane & Tail after a thorough shampoo and conditioning.

Directions: For show ready results, before using, start with these Lasskin Equine products: Shampoo, Conditioner and Mask. Lasskin Equine Mane & Tail can be used with or without braiding.

  • After shampoo and conditioner, allow mane and tail dry naturally.
  • Starting from the bottom of the mane and tail, work your way up, run your fingers gently through the strands to help loosen any tangles (recommended method). You may also gently comb through the mane and tail with a wide tooth comb to detangle. Do not pull the hair.
  • Mane: Where the mane meets the neck, separate the mane into 6 sections and loosely braid entire mane from the top, down to the ends. You will end with 6 soft loose braids.
  • Tail: Begin forming one loose braid 2 - 3 inches below the tail bone and braid to the bottom of the tail. You will end with one soft loose braid.
  • Important: Use electrical tape to wrap the ends of all braids. Do not use rubber bands.
  • Thoroughly saturate hair with Lasskin Equine Mane & Tail and gently massage into braids.
  • Using the split top, tube sock method (recommended), gently fold up the tail and enclose it in the tube sock. Loosely tie off at the top.

NOTE:

Never comb through mane and tail after applying Lasskin Equine Mane & Tail.

Repeat process every 14 days or as needed. With consistent use, following the Lasskin Equine Mane & Tail directions, tensile strength and thickness of the hair will increase, breaking and splitting will decrease.

RELIEF BALM SHEATH CLEANER DIRECTIONS

Application can be bare handed. If glove preferred, it needs to be a Nitrile allergy safe non-latex glove to avoid irritation and achieve the proper slip (Apply 1-2 tablespoons of Relief Balm to fingertips).

- Male Equine Sheath: Using allergen free gloves, put a generous amount of Lasskin Equine Relief Balm into your gloved hand. If they have dropped, slather Relief Balm over the entire shaft. If they have not dropped, carefully apply a generous amount of Relief Balm inside the sheath. Give special attention to the inside walls and to the back. You want to easily glide over the area, so add more Relief Balm as needed. Check inside the rim of the urethra for “beans”. It is important that they are removed. Make certain that the entire sheath and shaft is generously covered with Relief Balm. Allow the product to set 5 to 10 minutes or more if needed. Use clean, soft, microfiber cloths to gently wipe away all residue. At this point, the “beans” may be sufficiently loosened and can be gently removed. If not, do not pull them. Repeat with another layer of Relief Balm and let it set 5 to 10 minutes more. Then make another attempt at removal. Use clean, soft, microfiber cloths to gently wipe away all residue.

- Mare External Genitals and Udders:

Using an allergen free glove, put a generous amount of Relief Balm into your gloved hand and coat the external genital area. Let set in place 5 to 10 minutes or as long as needed. Use clean, soft, microfiber cloths to gently remove all residue. When cleaning the udders use a clean pair of gloves. Apply a generous layer of Relief Balm to all areas. Let set in place 5 to 10 minutes or as long as needed. Gently and carefully pull away and remove any debris adhering to udders. If debris is difficult to remove, apply additional Relief Balm and repeat the process. When debris is softened, attempt removal. Use clean, soft, microfiber cloths to gently remove all residue.

- Chestnuts and Ergots:

Apply a thick layer of Relief Balm, covering the area completely. Gently massage product into the Chestnut or Ergot and also surrounding area. Allow Relief Balm to set in place until the area is sufficiently softened. Using hands and fingers, gently begin flaking away and removing the layers of the Chestnut or Ergot. If Chestnuts and Ergots are difficult to remove, do not risk injury to the horse. Repeat the process with a heavy layer of Relief Balm. When area is sufficiently softened, attempt removal. Do not damage the fresh skin underneath.

NOTE:

Relief Balm can be applied to Chestnuts and Ergots daily, overnight or as often as needed to moisturize and protect.
